Our Mission

The purpose of KidneyTexas, Inc. is to provide funding to improve the methods of treatment, the search for a cure and the prevention of kidney disease and kindred or contributory diseases; and to develop more adequate provision for the care of persons suffering from such diseases.

History

KidneyTexas, Inc. was born out of both heartbreak and determination. In the 1960s, Patty Jo Haggar Turner’s paternal mother passed away from kidney failure in her mid-60s—a time when life-saving dialysis was scarce, with only one or two machines available in all of Dallas. Her loss was not only deeply personal but also a stark reminder of how limited treatment options were for those suffering from kidney disease.

Motivated to make a difference, Patty Jo’s mother sought a way to help others face similar challenges. What began as a small, heartfelt effort soon took shape through the dedication of a group of her mother’s golfing buddies at Northwood Country Club, who organized a modest Mother-Daughter fashion show and luncheon to raise funds for kidney disease. That simple event, rooted in compassion and community, became the foundation for something much larger. Year after year, it grew in size, impact, and influence, evolving into a cherished tradition in Dallas.

For more than two decades, the National Kidney Foundation of Texas Auxiliary carried this mission forward, raising funds through membership dues, donations, and fundraising events. During this time, all proceeds were contributed directly to the National Kidney Foundation, supporting its broader initiatives. By 1999, however, the Auxiliary members recognized an opportunity to deepen their local impact. With a shared vision and commitment, they made the pivotal decision to establish an independent nonprofit organization—ensuring that the funds they worked so hard to raise would remain in North Texas and directly benefit their own community. Thus, KidneyTexas, Inc. was formed and granted 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and a has since been a
vital force in the fight against kidney disease.

By supporting a wide range of qualified health organizations, KidneyTexas continues to fund critical advancements in research, treatment, and patient care—honoring its origins while making a lasting difference in countless lives.
