Living Organ donation has become a desired option for the thousands of patients on the kidney transplant waiting list. As a result of the implementation of this program, there will be an increase in the number of living kidney donations at UT Southwestern Medical Center. There will also be a decrease in the number of patients on the wait list and better post transplant outcomes for the recipient. With the KidneyTexas donation the following can be purchased:
Monies raised in 2009 by Kidney Texas, Inc. will help PKD researchers in Texas discover the pieces of the puzzle that are still missing with continued funding of a grant for Hongmin Qin, Ph.D, Texas A& M University, College Station, to continue research on “Identification of Effectors for the IFT27, an Intraflagellar Transport Particle Protein Functioning in the Cell Cycle”.

As the national economy had continued to falter, requests for EFAP aid have soared. Fiscal year 2007-08 saw the amount awarded in emergency funding explode to twice the total of the previous three years – combined.
The flurry of aid requests has continued to increase in FY 2008-09. The average number of monthly requests for aid has increased 33% during the first 5 months of the fiscal year. At this rate, the total amount of aid awarded for the fiscal year is projected to exceed $30,000. The availability of this aid is invaluable to kidney transplant and dialysis patients. Aid requests are for basic necessities: rent, transportation, medication and electricity. A vast majority of the requests are for that final item. While awareness of the program has increased, requests for help sometimes come to us only after a patient has been sitting in the dark for several days. Given the increase in need and what is projected to be a slow economic recovery, these funds are desperately needed. Funds will be dispersed as needed. We are currently ending a grant from the George and Fay Young Foundation, which we hope to renew. Aside from this future request, there are not any outstanding requests for funds for the EFAP program.
